Updated: Oct 23, 2021

Halloween is a time when children get far too many sweets - why not make some low sugar treats to give out when little visitors come knocking

Use this Low Sugar Almond Biscuit Recipe:

Ingredients

8oz wholemeal flour

5 oz goats butter or marg/butter of your choice

2 oz coconut sugar

2 oz ground almonds

1 egg beaten

Extras needed are : red, green, silver, gold and pink edible glitter, edible glue, green fondant icing, melted dark chocolate

Method

1 Place flour and butter into an electric mixer, blend until fine bread crumb texture

2 Pour the sugar and ground almonds into the mixture and blend together

3 Transfer the mixture into a large mixing bowl

4 Add the beaten egg to the mixture and combine into a firm sticky dough

5 Transfer to a floured surface and knead with your hands for about 30 seconds, then form into a large ball

6 Place in a plastic bag or completely cover with cling film and leave in the fridge for half an hour

Methods

The dough is easy to roll out with a rolling pin and by hand.

Always remember to prick the biscuits before cooking - this helps them to cook right through.

Witch's Fingers

  1. Take a small ball of the dough and roll it into a sausage shape about eight inches long and half and inch diameter then prick all over and bake for about 20 mins.

  2. Cool on a wire rack. When cold break in half and with edible glue put onto the uncut end  some green nails you've cut out of the fondant icing  Put some glue on the nail tips and dip in green edible glitter.

  3. Then paint some edible glue onto the broken 'finger' end and dip into red edible glitter.

Magic Wands

  1. Roll out the dough until about 1/4" thick, then cut into 1/4 "" strips. Prick and bake for about 15 minutes.

  2. Cool on a wire rack.

  3. Melt some dark chocolate in a small bowl and dip one end of the wands into the chocolate and sprinkle with edible glitter.

  4. Rest across a mug until dry.

  5. Dip the other end in the chocolate and glitter and leave to dry.

  6. Dust the 'stick' of the wand with glitter

Unicorn Shoes

  1. Roll out dough until just over 1/4" thick, cut into 1/4" strips about 5" long, shape into horseshoe shapes, prick all round and bake for 15 - 20 mins

  2. Paint with edible glue and dust with pink edible glitter
